Tree Work:

At Craighead Horse Logging we can carry out the full range of tree management services.  Our tree surgeons work throughout Ayrshire and Renfrewshire. All work is fully insured to an indemnity sum of £10 million and carried out by NPTC and LANTRA qualified operatives.

Felling: All types of felling and tree removal using the traditional felling techniques; sectional dismantling and specialist rigging techniques for awkward tree removal.

Crown Lifting and Pruning:

Pruning of trees to shape them and allow light to get to the ground.  Also removal of unsightly, overhanging or damaged branches.

Storm Damage:

Our emergency call out team can be on site at short notice to deal with storm damaged, windthrown or other types of dangerous trees.  We can quickly and safely clear trees causing obstruction or danger.

You might like to know…

When we come to assess a job we will give your our honest opinion.  If we quote a price that is what you will pay - no added ‘extras’ or trying to make a job what it is not.

Quite often when asked for advice, we tell people there is actually nothing wrong with their trees and they needn’t worry.  Peace of mind costs nothing.

All our operatives wear correct chainsaw PPE at all times and our climbers use LOLER tested equipment and are highly trained.

Topping (Removal of the top section of a tree)

This is a bad practice and normally carried out by unprofessional and untrained persons who lack the skill and ability to thin and prune properly.  It is bad for the tree and looks awful - we do not do it so please don’t ask us to.  What we will do instead is thin it and crown reduce it so it looks presentable and continues to be healthy and vigorous.

A word to the wise:

When you are looking for someone to carry out tree work ensure you get someone who is properly qualified and insured!

There is no shortage of white van men and odd-job landscapers who will offer to ‘sort’ your trees. When you are looking for someone to do your tree work, ask for proof of insurance, qualification and about any membership of trade or professional organisations.  Don’t take someone’s word for it - trained tree workers carry NPTC or LANTRA skills cards.  Ask to see their certificate of insurance and ask about previous clients.

If you employ someone unskilled and uninsured you are taking a risk.  (Also read about Topping trees!!)

Stump Removal is also available, together with chipping and brash removal.  We can also cut your produce to firewood size and leave it on site for your own use.

You might also like to consider our mobile milling service using our Logosol mill to cut your tree to useable sizes for fencing, furniture making or any other use you may have for it.

Our arborist and tree surgery teams of qualified tree surgeons and forestry workers are available throughout Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and the Glasgow area.
